Black Rainbow Paintings

2014 - present

I spray numerous (up to 50) thin layers of translucent paint on to linen while sanding and polishing each layer. I build these transparent panes until the surface resembles a deep optical black on a glassy surface more akin to stone than cloth canvas.

The process is a form of physical thinking that uses my entire body: my stomach, breath, muscle-memory. My own anatomical proportions determine composition and scale.
